Looks like Mad Cats found a new way to make a fast buck off the 360 with a drum kit and as far as i can see there is no word on if it will work for Guitar Hero so i take that as it will not, to bad since i would have grabbed it myself just for the neat little D-pad and easy storage.

  | Job posting reveals Zune-Xbox integration | |
Job posting reveals Zune-Xbox integration Published by: forahobby on Sunday, December 21, 2008 Tagged: Hardware, Live Marketplace, Xbox 360,
Zune is coming to Xbox. There's a job listing for a user experience designer to work on the Zune Device UI, Zune PC Client and--hang on a second--Zune Xbox. Cnet are reporting on a job posting which is revealing Zune-Xbox intergration is on it's way.
Zune speculation is an armchair sport here in the tech sector of the Pacific Northwest (especially when we're all housebound because of a few inches of snow), and today Todd Bishop at TechFlash posted some interesting excerpts from the Zune team's job listings. Based on his post, it looks like the Zune Marketplace will begin to use the back-end from Musiwave, the European provider of music for mobile phones that Microsoft acquired a little more than a year ago--and if that doesn't point to a Zune service for mobile phones, nothing does--and will continue to feature DRM (couched in ever-so-reassuring phrases like "to let consumers enjoy music in new and interesting ways").
But here's something else: Zune is coming to Xbox. There's a job listing for a user experience designer to work on the Zune Device UI, Zune PC Client and--hang on a second--Zune Xbox.
Zune Xbox? Of course. Both Xbox Live and the Zune Marketplace use Microsoft's own pseudo-currency, Microsoft Points. Xbox Live already lets you download video content and stream movies-on-demand from Netflix (if you're a subscriber). You can plug any MP3 player into the Xbox 360 and listen to a mix of your music as you play. So why not take all these pieces to their logical conclusion and let you access the Zune Marketplace from Xbox Live.?Integration would be particularly useful for Zune Pass subscribers, giving them another device on which to use their unlimited monthly listens.

  | Guitar Hero: World Tour Drum kit Sensitivty Issues | |
Guitar Hero: World Tour Drum kit Sensitivty Issues Published by: forahobby on Sunday, December 14, 2008 Tagged: Gaming, Hardware, Xbox 360,
Red Octane and Activision have recently released new software and a MIDI to USB cable for your PC which can be used to configure the sensitivity of the entire Guitar Hero: World Tour Drumkit.
I myself have been experiencing nothing but problems after only the first few days of playing my Guitar Hero: World Tour Drum kit and I put it down to a sensitivity problem too.
DJB from 360-HQ only just mentioned about the software and cable that is now on offer for free by putting in a warranty claim, so I thought I had better check it out for our other members here on HQ who may be experiencing similar issues.
The software and MIDI to USB cable is available for free to any user who has purchased the product within the last 90 days and can provide the serial number from within the DRUMKIT battery area.
We have uploaded the latest GHWT Drumkit Tuner Software to the 360-HQ downloads area here and the Drumkit Tuner PDF tutorial is available here.
If you are experiencing a drum sensitivity issue and require a Midi Tuning Kit Click Here.

  | EncodeHD Beta 0.80 Released! | |
EncodeHD Beta 0.80 Released! Published by: frozenfire1 on Saturday, December 13, 2008 Tagged: Hardware, Homebrew, Xbox 360,
"EncodeHD" is a application written by Dan Cunningham which will re-encode all types of video files for use on your Xbox 360, home media player or other on-the-go device. EncodeHD replaces the older application named "Encode360".
EncodeHD is still in an early beta stage and as such, may not work exactly as expected.
EncodeHD isn't even a month old and already its progressing well beyond expected. Exactly one week ago we posted a story about how version 0.71 was released and already Dan Cunningham has gotten it up to 0.80, it is progressing very nicely!

With the new update comes a lot of bug fixes and new features such as:
- NEW: Option to specify the Output Folder
- NEW: Advanced FFmpeg Flags option, for adding to the FFmpeg command-line
- NEW: MP4 Artwork (thanks to AtomicParsley). MyFile.Avi + MyFile.Jpg or Png = MyFile.Mp4 w/ArtWork! :)
- NEW: UI Enhancements and a brand new icon, thanks to the Simplicio Icon Set
- CHANGE: H.264 quality improvements. Slightly increases encoding times, but its worth it
- CHANGE: Disabled H.264 remuxing due to av_interleaved_frame_write_error. Investigating workarounds
- CHANGE: Removed AviSynth (AVS) as an encodable file-type, until I can implement a workable solution to MediaInfo handling
- CHANGE: Rewrite of output folder / filename validation code. Much more reliable now
- CHANGE: Lots of small bugfixes
- FIX: MPEG4 could fail with unable to assign thread error
- FIX: Non-AC3 5.1 audio was not being down-mixed to 2 channel AAC
- FIX: A/V sync issues with certain XVid files
- FIX: Audio crackling issues on Apple trailers
Keep tuned into 360-HQ for the newest version when it becomes available

  | Update Your Xbox 360 To The New NXE Offline | |
Update Your Xbox 360 To The New NXE Offline Published by: wes213 on Thursday, December 11, 2008 Tagged: Hardware, Xbox 360, Xbox Live,
Right now we have a thread open talking all about a way to download and update your Xbox dash to the new NXE build with out Xbox Live and after looking it over i must say it sounds easy enough to do so i have the full info, layout and links below.
To create an update disc you need the following:
* A DVD or CD burner.
* A blank, writeable DVD or CD.
* The update file from Xbox.com.
This procedure involves burning the DVD or CD by using Microsoft Windows DVD or CD burning software. If you're using third-party CD/DVD writing software, follow the instructions for creating a data disc.
The same steps apply whether burning a CD or a DVD.
To create a DVD or CD:
1. Click here to begin downloading the update folder. Save it as "$SystemUpdate_Fall08.zip" anywhere on your computer.
2. Place a blank disc in your burner.
From Windows Explorer, select Open Writable CD Folder Using Windows Explorer or open the CD drive icon.
3. Open (double click) the zipped $SystemUpdate_ Fall08.zip folder and drag the contents of the zipped folder to the root of the CD Folder. If the CD write window doesn't open by default, drag and drop the folder onto the CD/DVD RW drive.
Note
If you are using an earlier version of Windows you will need to open the file using a separate utility (for example, WinZip).
4. In the Explorer window, click Write files to CD from the CD writing tasks or right-click the CD/DVD RW drive and select Write these files to CD.
Caution
The update filename and folder structure must be intact for the update to run properly.
5. Follow the steps in the CD wizard.
When you are finished with the wizard, the CD will eject. Your CD is ready.
To update the console:
1. Place the CD in the Xbox 360 console.
2. Power cycle the Xbox 360 console.
3. The update program will start automatically. Select Yes, update now and press A.
4. Wait for the update to complete.
5. When the console reboots, you're done.

  | Europe Gets A Call Of Duty WAW 360 Bundle | |
Europe Gets A Call Of Duty WAW 360 Bundle Published by: wes213 on Friday, October 24, 2008 Tagged: Gaming, Xbox 360,
There is no date set for this bundle so far but given the fact the game will hit soon I'm sure Microsoft will not want to wait for the best window of opportunity to close so it cant be long till it hits, this will be the ninth bundle to release in Europe and good ol Kotaku has what info is out about it.
Kotaku.com reports: "Seven bundles? Oh, Microsoft Europe weren't ever going to stop at "just" seven 360 bundles for the holiday season. We knew that when the eighth one hit. And now definitely know it with the ninth bundle, this time in a Call of Duty flavour. Included in the bundle is a 60GB Pro, a wireless controller and a copy of call of Duty: World At War. Not the most exciting bundle, then, but it's interesting to see an official pack-in of an adults-only game."

  | Greenberg Predicts 360 To Out Sell PS3 This Holiday Season | |
Greenberg Predicts 360 To Out Sell PS3 This Holiday Season Published by: wes213 on Sunday, October 19, 2008 Tagged: Xbox 360,
There is no doubt that the 360 has been on a bit of a roll when it comes to console sells this year thanks to the launch of a few RPG games and increased sells in the Japanese market due to those RPG games but now Microsoft's Aaron Greenberg is making his holiday season predictions.
Here is what Aaron Greenberg had to say to kotaku on the subject: September marked the Xbox 360's best month of 2008, in terms of sales in the U.S — its performance in Japan hasn't been too bad either. Following a price cut that made the 360 the least expensive current generation console on the market, the company moved 347,200 units to American consumers. While it wasn't enough to supplant the Wii as the best selling console in the country, it was enough to beat the competition from Sony.
We spoke to Aaron Greenberg, group product manager for Xbox 360, just after NPD sales numbers hit to get his take. Unsurprisingly, he seemed rather pleased with the company's recent hardware successes.
"We expect to continue our price advantage over the PlayStation 3 for a long time," Greenberg told us, pointing to the $199 price tag of the company's entry level Arcade console, assuming that Sony would issue no pre-holiday price drops. "And we feel confident that we'll outsell the PS3 this holiday season in North America and in Europe. We'll do it on a global scale."
As for what those consumers are picking up, Greenberg said "We've seen lifts across all consoles, but the Arcade is doing exceptionally well."
Microsoft touted a 42% increase, month to month, on NPD hardware sales data. Greenberg made sure to point out that the August survey period consisted of a four week month, with the September period five weeks long. That, Greenberg said, illustrated "flat growth" of the PlayStation 3.
Fanning the flames of the console war of words, Greenberg harped on the Xbox 360's abnormally high attach rate, which at 8.1 games per console, outpaces the PS3 by 2:1 and the Wii by 3:1. "And that doesn't include [Xbox Live Arcade] games," he boasted.
Okay, we get it. You're swimming in cash and exclusive and high attach rates. Good job. Is Xbox Live going to work this holiday season? Because it didn't last year. How prepared are you, Microsoft man? How will Live hold up?
"Hopefully, very well," Greenberg said "We've grown our team and our infrastructure over the past year." With the New Xbox Experience, Gears of War 2 and even more Live ready titles putting a strain on the service this holiday, we'll see, Aaron. We'll see.

  | Ending Any Rumors Of Blu-Ray | |
Ending Any Rumors Of Blu-Ray Published by: wes213 on Friday, October 10, 2008 Tagged: Xbox 360,
This is getting to be the most commen rumor about the XBOX 360 to date and all of Microsofts officles seem to be saying the same thing and that is that XBOX 360 will never run Blu-Ray and I don't personally think the Blu-Ray format will hang on as long as DVD did.

In an audio interview with Major Nelson, Aaron Greenberg was quoted as saying: “We believe that we shouldn’t force people to pay for things they don’t want. We also believe that the future’s digital, and that’s why we’ve invested in a massive library of entertainment content, that’s why we’re bringing things like Netflix to members in the US, that’s why we’re growing our library in Europe, that’s why we’re adding all type of entertainment experiences around the world.”
“And Blu-ray: who knows? I’ll tell you one thing: if you look at retail sales and availability, there’s not a lot there, and what is there is at a premium,” he said.
“No one knows what Blu-ray will be. It’s pretty clear it’s not the next DVD, right? The days of one physical format being the standard are gone.
“I went to Sony’s booth, and it used to be that their whole booth was Blu-ray. It just keeps shrinking down. Now it’s just this little corner and there’s no one there and it’s like, there’s a heart sign and it’s got ‘Blu-ray’ and some movies. It’s interesting.”
Looks like Blu-Ray might have won the war but the spoils of that war are much smaller then once thought.
