  | Mark Rein Report On Gears of War 2 Patch | |
Mark Rein Report On Gears of War 2 Patch Published by: wes213 on Tuesday, January 06, 2009 Tagged: Xbox 360,
Here we are in the new year and i must say that one of the biggest complaints game wise has been the huge server issues related to Gears of War 2, but help is on the way and it would seem that the Gears team would like to make it up to you by not just patching the game but adding to it.
Mark Rein posts in the gearsforums First of all I hope all of you had a safe and happy holiday season.
As I mentioned before the break we’ve been working on a major title update for Gears of War 2. This update will address bugs and exploits as well as add some new achievements related to downloadable content. We don’t have an exact date for it but all indicators are it will go live within January. If that changes we’ll let you know.
We’re fixing a whole bunch of online exploits. For example we’ve fixed the ability to wield an invisible shield, melee through some walls, gain infinite Lancer ammo and equip a shield and a two-handed weapon simultaneously plus many more.
We’re also making several small changes to improve the overall online gameplay experience. A few of the ones that might interest you are; increased penalties for quitting matches early, adding additional spawn protection against planted grenades and chainsaw attacks, and adding the ability to see the Submission flag carrier destination by using Tac/Com.
We know you folks love achievements so on the achievement side we’re adding achievement progress numbers to the War Journal, increasing the frequency of in-game Achievement progression notifications and adding some new Achievements for DLC.
This is just a very small list of some of the things that will be in the next title update but one more item which has been talked about a lot in our forums deserves a special call out...
About that shotgun...
We fixed the client side hit detection on the shotgun so that in a high-latency (i.e. “laggy”) match, the shotgun will be more reliable. We’ve also fixed another bug whereby shotgun and boomshot rounds could strike the ground when firing from the hip.
So there’s a brief status report on the next title update. At some point I expect we’ll post a more detailed list but I assure you we’re working hard to get this out the door and once it’s done we’ll start working on the next update. We’ll try to do a better job keeping you informed of our progress on future updates and we’ll try to be a little more active in the forums once this update is released.

  | How Far Will LEGO Go??? | |
How Far Will LEGO Go??? Published by: wes213 on Sunday, January 04, 2009 Tagged: Xbox 360,
I never like to report on rumors since you got to keep up with it and see if they turn out true or not but this one just grabbed my eye and i had to share it so check out this VG247 report on the rumor of a Lego Rock Band in works.
The full report reads as follows: A VG247 source has claimed Traveller’s Tales is working on a Lego version of Rock Band for EA.
Our chatterer assured us the information was “100 percent correct”.
UK developer TT Games confirmed in a Radio One interview with EGTV’s Johnny Minkley last night that a Lego game is to be released this year, but refused to confirm its identity.
Minkley speculated the title was a second Indiana Jones game during the show.
Traveller’s Tales was rumored recently to be working on Lego Harry Potter, talk Warner slapped with a swift “no comment“.
A Lego Potter game would have to be a collaboration with EA, as the publisher owns game rights to the Hogwarts hyper-franchise.
Traveller’s Tales - which is owned by Warner Bros - has yet to confirm future projects, having released Lego Indiana Jones and Lego Batman in 2008.
EA US was unavailable for comment at the time of writing.
With that said it makes you think, just how far can the LEGO franchise take this cash cow before the milk runs dry and just because they can make it dose that make it a good game?
Time will tell so lets wait and see.

  | Xbox 360 Is The Year's Most Played Next Gen | |
Xbox 360 Is The Year's Most Played Next Gen Published by: wes213 on Sunday, January 04, 2009 Tagged: Xbox 360,
In a gamasutra.com report the facts show the XBOX 360 to be the most played next gen console on the market but that was not good enough to take the over all most played console position, nope that honer went to the PS2 at a huge 31.7%.
Here is gamasutra.com's full report: In 2008, gamers collectively spent more time with their PlayStation 2 than any other console. That's according to media research company Nielsen, whose "Top Tens" of 2008 calculated video game console usage, as well as the top PC games.
The company's methodology, also famously used in the TV industry, is to use data from households that it monitors for media usage, and then extrapolate across the entire United States.
Nielsen's data, which actually covers the period from January through October, found that PS2 users accounted for 31.7 percent of the total time played from all nationwide gamers. The Xbox 360 was the year's second-most popular console, with 17.2 percent of the time, followed by Wii at 13.4 percent.
Interestingly, Nielsen says that the first-gen Xbox currently sees more usage than the PlayStation 3, with 9.7 percent versus 7.3 percent, respectively. The GameCube still made the surveyors' list with 4.6 percent of total time, and an "Other" category accounts for the remaining 16.2 percent.
"Other", Nielsen says, includes "any other console found in the home" - it appears that the research did not include portable hardware like the Nintendo DS or PSP.
Unsurprisingly, Blizzard's World of Warcraft tops Nielsen's most-played PC game list, seeing an average of 671 minutes played per week. In any given minute, the data says, almost 1 percent (0.723 percent) of all PC gamers are playing WoW.
Nielsen's full list of most-played PC titles, with average minutes per week and what percentage of PC gamers are playing them at that moment, is as follows:
1. World of Warcraft (Blizzard)
- 671 minutes per week (0.723% of gamers)
2. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (Activision)
- 403 minutes per week (0.163% of gamers)
3. Halo: Combat Evolved (Microsoft)
- 295 minutes per week (0.092% of gamers)
4. The Sims (Electronic Arts)
- 213 minutes per week (0.09% of gamers)
5. The Sims 2 (Electronic Arts)
- 291 minutes per week (0.086% of gamers)
6. RuneScape (Jagex)
- 451 minutes per week (0.084% of gamers)
7. Diablo II (Blizzard)
- 313 minutes per week (0.065% of gamers)
8. Team Fortress 2 (Valve)
- 371 minutes per week (0.063% of gamers)
9. Counter-Strike (Valve)
- 282 minutes per week (0.062% of gamers)
10. Counter-Strike: Source (Valve)
- 426 minutes per week (0.061% of gamers)

  | Is 60 Bucks To Much? | |
Is 60 Bucks To Much? Published by: wes213 on Wednesday, December 31, 2008 Tagged: Gaming, Xbox 360,
Since i have had my 360 i have found that all new games are going to run you about 60 bucks and thats that, sounded high to me but who am i to question the great game god that is Microsoft?
With a bit more insite to the cost of games and the possible drop that may become a trend here is a Forbes report that gives us a look at what game pricing might hold for us in the coming year.

The arrival of the Xbox 360 did more than usher in the next generation of videogame systems. It also brought with it a new pricing structure for games.
The $50 price point for AAA games, which had held steady for years, finally jumped to $60. Gamers, predictably, howled in protest, but didn't slow their spending one penny. If anything, they spent more. Publishers were able to cushion their higher development costs and it wasn't long before everyone got comfortable with the new price.
Article Controls
That was before the recession hit. With consumers increasingly worried about their cash flow, questions are starting to surface on how long publishers will be able to maintain the $60 price point.
Activision-Blizzard made the most notable move right before Christmas, lowering the price of "Call of Duty: World at War" from $59 to $49. While price cuts aren't unheard of during the holidays, the latest "Call of Duty" was a strong seller for the company and the action perked the ears of analysts.
"While the move may be part of an annual promotion, we believe a $10 discount on one of the industry’s top holiday releases highlights the risk of lower software pricing moving into the new year," wrote Colin Sebastian, senior vice president of equity research for Lazard Capital Markets, in a note to investors.
The late-December cuts to "Call of Duty" were hardly the only ones in the industry. Activision-Blizzard also reduced the price of "Guitar Hero: World Tour," and Sebastian notes Ubisoft and Electronic Arts (nasdaq: ERTS - news - people ) have also instituted broader price cuts.
No doubt, publishers will continue to release new games at $60 price points for some time. But the inability to keep them at that level for a significant period could have some serious implications on revenues.
Lets hope this will hold true and that we can all get back to the glory days of 50 dollar games and save the 60 dollar price point for the ones with DLC already in the box.

'Gears Of War' Creator On Gaming's Future Published by: forahobby on Tuesday, December 30, 2008 Tagged: Gaming, Xbox 360, Xbox Live,
Epic Games' Cliff Bleszinski chats about his inspirations and innovations with the guys from forbes.com.
A chainsaw revs. The heavily armored Marcus Fenix lumbers forward, ripping through a Locust soldier as if he were shredding turkey with an electric carving knife. The combination assault rifle and mechanized saw blade, known as a Lancer, is one of the most recognizable components of "Gears of War," the Xbox 360 shooter that asks players to save humanity from an alien horde.
The most recognizable man behind the franchise happens to be Cliff Bleszinski. The 33-year-old design director of Epic Games has cultivated a rock star aura, despite the videogame industry's general lack of celebrity. He started out in the business when he was 17. Now he is in charge of one of the largest franchises on Microsoft's (nasdaq: MSFT - news - people ) console. "Gears of War 2," his latest title, launched in early November and sold 2 million copies its opening weekend. The game is expected to be one of the best-selling games this holiday season.

PROTOTYPE Countdown??? Published by: wes213 on Friday, December 26, 2008 Tagged: Gaming, Xbox 360,
With all the posts and info i have put up over the last year or so on Activision's soon to be smash hit Prototype i would hope by now you have at least looked it over and maybe even found it to be a game you want in your collection, if you have then you might just want to check this out for yourself.

A new page has popped up by Activision for Prototype and not just any page but a countdown of some sort, i can only guess at it right now but i am willing to guess its a count down to a release date.
If this turns out to be a release date count down i can say for sure i will be playing Prototype in 12 days and be making sure this game can stand up to all the hype i have thrown out there for it, so with that said i can only hope you take the time to check out the videos and info for this game and see what i have been ranting about for damn near a year now.
